Welcome to Term 2! This is another opportunity to "Make a Difference" in the world of Education. Ask yourself, "What am I prepared to do this term that I have not done before? Go out of my comfort zone; volunteer at my local library; study!! The world is my oyster."
Anything that you truly want to do, can be done. Remember to share your passions and talents (no matter how small they are to you).

2016 Theme - "Refresh" Yourself!
Your personal theme for 2016 should be to press F5 and 'refresh' yourself. Update your CV, dress to impress and re-visit schools where you would like to get work. (Remember, although you may have done a face-to-face with key personnel in different schools last year or earlier, it is worth reminding them that you are willing and able to do CRT work.)
Start the new year with: enthusiasm, acceptance of any new challenges, and a positive attitude.

Remember, to create achievable goals for yourself and follow them through. At times you may lose sight of what direction you want to take; be clear in your mind about your choices, and stick by them. Share your talents and your passions, and excel at whatever you do.
Enjoy the excitement of the days, weeks and months ahead, and explore your many and varied strengths.

Term 3 and Term 4, 2015
As educators, we strive for the best! We want our knowledge and skills to bring about personal satisfaction in knowing that what we deliver, on a daily basis, is as good as we can make it. Our job is to ensure that every classroom in which we step, is 'inclusive'. To that end, we must remember the following 'Professional Standards for Teachers":
1.5 Differentiate teaching to meet the specific learning needs of students across the full range of abilities
1.6 Strategies to support full participation of students with disability
4.1 Support student participation
When we accept the weighty responsibility of playing a part in the overall education plan for children and young people, we accept the challenge associated with it.
Make Term 4 an opportunity for you to deliver your 'personal best' in the educational environment. Set your realistic, teaching goals and learning intentions with enthusiasm and determination, and enjoy the 'ripple effect'.

Term 2 - Have you heard of "Nature Deficit Disorder"?
This newly diagnosed 'condition', comes about when someone (child, young person or adult) is deprived of the opportunity of 'connecting' with nature through the senses. So, what does this mean for teachers?
Well, it means that as teachers we are in the amazing position of creating learning opportunities for children and young people in our care; these opportunities could include: cognitive, physical, social, emotional and language experiences, which could be enhanced by interacting with and engaging in our natural environment. (Food for thought?)
Let Term 2 be a term of natural learning opportunities. Enjoy!

Welcome to 2015!
Well, the new year has come, and with it excitement for the new challenges ahead, new learning experiences and new "role-modelling" for us to lead, and for us to follow. "New Year's Resolutions"have been made with the intention of keeping each and every one of them. (What have you promised yourself?) We all have to set our challenges which help to bring out the best in us. So, what challenges have you set for yourself? What will you do differently this year? What will you learn? What will you teach someone else?
Make a conscious effort to promote "Best Teaching Practice" every opportunity that you get. Have a great year!

Exit Busy Term 3 and Enter Exciting Term 4!
Well, Term 3 has come and gone, and it has caused a sensory explosion! We have seen, heard and learned a great deal from: Leanne Regan, from the "Association for Children with a Disability", who supplied us with some great teaching strategies and understanding; and Megan Dredge, who converted us all to believe in the "Power of Me". (With Megan's "All in a Day's Work", we were treated to a long, hard look at ourselves, and the endless possibilities of future employment by just going that "extra mile", and investing in the right "tool kit" containing the obligatory: warm and friendly personality, passion for teaching and knowledge of how to teach well.) How simple is that?
So, what is the next step? Well Lynn, a friend of mine (a truly passionate teacher), told me about Anthony Browne's "Voices in the Park". I jumped online and watched a YouTube clip of the book; it was amazing and opened up numerous "what if?" possibilities for me with my own teaching. This "picture book" was a visual delight, and the message contained within its pages was overwhelming.
(If you get a chance, read it!) It is exciting when shared information bursts into waves of 'great ideas' for teaching.
Your amazing new teaching idea is just around the corner; watch out for it.

Welcome Term 2, 2014!
At our last "Professional Development" session on March 25th, while we were waiting for our presenter to battle her way through the traffic, I asked the assembled CRTs to share any CRT moments with the group. As a result, one CRT stood up and told us about her experiences at a particular school where she was valued, respected and constantly called back to teach. When asked why this was the case, she told us about the 'little extra things" that she always did that went above and beyond the call of duty. Things like: arriving early every day, volunteering to take an extra duty for a teacher who was "snowed under" with work, sharing ideas and always being warm and friendly. On top of all that, she ensured that if lesson plans were left, she followed them, making sure that the students' work was corrected and the classroom left ready for the next day. (No wonder the school keeps calling her back: if I were a Principal, I would too.)
What does this have to do with Term 2, 2014? Good question! As you are aware, we know the things that we are good at, but what about the things that we should be better at!
Have a wonderful, challenging and fruitful term.
